Happy Birth/CakeFace Day
Nelson Turns 17

Austin Nelson celebrates his 17th birthday with his teammates after practice. Just before the CakeFace…
Congratulations to junior point guard Austin Nelson who celebrated his 17th birthday Thursday after practice. The team enjoyed cake and gave Austin the traditional Coronado Basketball Birthday gift, a CakeFace!!!

R.J. Newton delivers the CakeFace while Adam Schmitt catches Austin by surpise.

MMMMMMMMMM… Chocolate.
Ice Ice Baby
Thursday’s practice all about restoring the body & mind.

Austin Nelson and Brandon Glanz hit the ice bath in the training room.
Its been a long couple of weeks with 6 games and 4 practices in the last eleven days. Even for the most well trained athletes, the body and mind always needs to be refreshed. On Thursday, the Cougars brought in a professional fitness coach to take the team through a 30 minute stretching routine. The team also refreshed their mind by walking through offense and defense and mixed in a little five on five full court at full speed. Some of the players had one on one meetings with the coaches to discuss their roles and let themselves be coached on their game play. Towards the end of practice, the tub was loaded and any players that wanted to could stay for an ice bath to refresh their muscles.
Following practice the players got together in the team room to have cake and celebrate Austin Nelson’s 17th birthday.
The team will get a good nights rest and be more than ready to go Friday night at Del Sol where they will have chance, with a win, to guarantee a home playoff game. Tip off at Del Sol is 6:30pm.

For some reason, Schmitt’s hair turned red while in the bath. Gaven enjoying the cool temperatures.
Cougars Ground Skyhawks
Nelson goes for 19 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds and 9 steals.

“Fly By”…Coronado’s Christian Chavez pump fakes a skyhawk defender then scores.
The Coronado Cougars were looking to come right back with a win over Silverado, after Monday’s tough loss at Foothill. The Cougars jumped out to an 10 point halftime lead 40-30 and pushed the lead to as many as 18 in the second half. Although Coronado was always in control, the game got down to 5 points at the end of the fourth quarter. “I think our kids were a little tired. Foothill was an up and down game at a furious pace and tonight I could see they (the players) were pacing themselves,” said Coach Berg. On a side note, it took a lot out of Foothill as well, as they lost to Liberty 78-73.

Austin Nelson led Coronado with huge numbers including 19 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds and 9 steals. Adam Schmitt poured in 17 points to go with 9 rebounds and Brandon Glanz had 13 points and 17 rebounds.
The Cougars will practice tomorrow and be back on the court Friday at Del Sol.
JV
The JV Team dominated Silverado from the opening tip building a lead of 28-6 at the end of the 1st quarter. Silverado never recovered and the JV went on to cruise to Victory. Conner McCubbin, Carl Chapman, David Ferris and Cain Brady all had outstanding games.
B-Team
The B-Team had a showdown with their division rivals. Silverado like Coronado only had one division loss. Make that two after tonight as the scrappy Coronado Freshman held on to win 40-38 running their division record to 10-1.
Marbery Headed Up
Brady moves to JV…

Congratulations to 6′6″ Junior Bryan Marbery. Marbery was moved to Varsity on Tuesday and will be in uniform for Wednesday’s game at Silverado. “Bryan has done a great job on the JV level, he is very active inside and we feel he’s ready to contribute to the Varsity as we make our playoff run, ” said Coach Kaufman.

Congratulations are also in order for Freshman Cain Brady who will be moving up to JV to replace Marbery. Brady has led the B-Team in just about every category, and should make an immediate impact on the JV team.
Coronado at Silverado
Cougars look to secure home playoff game.
All three Coronado Basketball Teams will be in action Wednesday night on the road at Silverado. The Varsity is looking to gain home court advantage in the playoffs which are only two weeks a way. A win tonight would keep the Cougars on pace to have their first playoff game at home. B-Team starts at 3:30, JV is at 5:00 and Varsity tips off at 6:30.
