Cougars Go 2 For Tuesday

Wins over Faith Lutheran and Basic…

The Coronado Summer Basketball Team cruised through pool play on Tuesday with two impressive wins. In the first game, Faith Lutheran had no answer for Austin Nelson, Adam Schmitt and Marcell Frazier as the trio combined for 56 points and 20 rebounds. Coronado jumped out to an early lead and were just to much for Faith Lutheran, as the Cougars cruised to 16 point win.

DYLAN TO AUSTIN NO CHARGE - SCORE THE BUCKET…

In the night game the Cougars squared off against division rival Basic High School. Coronado took control early and had no problems with Wolves blowing them out 74-33. All of the players on the Summer team made it into the stat book by either scoring, rebounding getting an assist or steal.
Coronado ran their record to 3-1 in the Foothill Summer Classic and will play their 30th and final game of the summer season Wednesday at 1:30 against Moorpark, CA.

Coronado Senior Guard Austin Nelson was pretty much unstoppable Monday night against Mater Dei(Santa Ana,CA).
Nelson led the Cougars attack with 21 points, 10 Assists, 6 steals and 5 rebounds. Coronado used a tough defense and quick offense to run past the Monarchs in pool play of the Foothill Summer Classic.
Adam Schmitt had 19 points and 7 boards, while Marcell Frazier added 12 points, 8 rebounds and a monster dunk to end the first half. The Cougars are now 1-1 in pool play moving into Tuesday’s games against Basic and Faith Lutheran.

Cougars Drop Opener

Lose to Canyon Springs

AUSTIN NELSON AND KYLE JOHNSON SCORE 5 IN A ROW.

The Coronado Summer Basketball Team opened the Foothill Summer Classic against rival Canyon Springs on Monday afternoon. The Cougars came out cold and went 0-7 to start the game giving Canyon Springs a 9-0 lead. But the Cougars came right back and behind Austin Nelsons 11 first half points trailed by only 4 at halftime. The second half remained close as the game was tied at 41. But Canyon Springs was able to convert some offensive rebounds and eventually pull away winning 56-49.
Marcell Frazier chipped in with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the Cougars.
The team is back in action at 7:20pm against Mater Dei.

Cougars Open Foothill Tournament Today

Games at 12:20 and 7:20…

The Coronado Summer Basketball Team opens the Foothill Tournament today at 12:20 vs. Canyon Springs. The Team will play again tonight at 7:20 vs. Mater Dei.
There are two game on Tuesday at 1:30 and 8:30pm against Faith Lutheran and Basic.

Cougars Power Past Canyon Springs II

3-0 Advance to Championship Bracket

The Coronado Summer Basketball Team had no problems with the Canyon Springs II team. The Cougars jumped out to an early 13-1 lead and never looked back leading by as many as 30 points during the game. The Cougars were led by seniors Austin Nelson and Adam Schmitt who scored 24 and 21 points.
The Cougars run their tournament record to 3-0 and win pool E advancing to the Championship bracket to face nationally ranked Cesar Chavez High School (Phoenix, Az) at 1:30 on Saturday.

The Coronado Summer Basketball Team moved to 2-0 with a convincing 71-56 win over Arbor View. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead and with more players in the line up than in the early game, the Cougars proved to much for the Aggies. Senior Austin Nelson who missed the first game, as he was traveling back from Los Angeles, scored from everywhere on the floor finishing with a game high 34 points to go along with his 6 assists, 5 steals and 8 rebounds. Junior Conner McCubbin caught fire in the first half hitting 4-5 three pointers. McCubbin finished with a summer high of 17 points. Adam Reed provided solid minutes being forced to play inside scoring 5 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
The Cougars finish pool play Friday at 12:20 vs Canyon Springs and will move into the tournament round on Saturday.

Short Handed Cougars Beat Sunrise Mtn.

The Coronado Summer Basketball Team played the opening game of the Canyon Springs Tournament without any of the five players that started the games at the UCSD Team Camp. With only eight players dressed, and all of them guards, the Cougars came out in an aggressive pressing run and gun attack against Sunrise Mountain. The tenacious defense of Carl Chapman and Kyle Johnson forced several turnovers early in the game that led to Cougar buckets. The Cougars were able to spread Sunrise Mountain out and attack from every angle. With hot shooting from Conner McCubbin and aggressive inside play from Adam Reed and Austin Moiseyev, Coronado won easily, 74-56. Carl Chapman led the way with 16 points, while McCubbin had 13, Kyle Johnson added 12, Austin Moiseyev and Adam Reed each had 9 points, Dylan Kaufman had 8 and newcomer Jay Sartorius chipped in with 7.

Schedule For Canyon Springs Tourney

July 15-17

The Coronado Summer Basketball Team opens pool play in the Canyon Springs, “Pioneer Classic” on Thursday July 15th at 12:20pm in the main gym at Canyon Springs High School. The tournament includes teams from Las Vegas, California, Utah and Arizona, including Bishop Gorman, Foothill, Ceasar Chavez, Dixie, Valley, Arbor View and many others.

Open Workout Friday

July 9th at 11:00am

There will be an open workout for any Coronado students interested in playing basketball for the 2010-2011 season on Friday July 9th at 11:00am in the main gym.
The program will include; conditioning, skills and open play. Workouts are for all levels including incoming Freshman.

CHS to Face Nationally Ranked Team

Coronado will play Mater Dei on July 19th…

The Coronado Summer Basketball Team will face Mater Dei High School out of Santa Ana, California on July 19th in the Foothill Summer Classic. Mater Dei, a private school in Santa Ana, California finished last season ranked 8th in the country. The Boys’ Basketball team, coached by Gary McKnight since 1982, has won 19 CIF Southern Section championships and 8 CIF State Titles. Coach McKnight won his 844th varsity basketball game last season, making him the most winning coach in California high school basketball.
The cougars will also play Nevada State runner up Canyon Springs as well as Faith Lutheran and Basic.
