ANNOUNCER:
Ladies and gentlemen welcome to Senior Night 2010. Please welcome the Principal of Coronado, Mr. Lee Koelliker.
KOELLIKER:
It is a great pleasure for me to be here to honor the seniors at Cheer and Basketball’s final regular season home game. Usually this the last time that our seniors will cheer or play in a game on this floor, but this year has been anything but usual. Because of the Spirit of Cheer and the talent of the team, everyone will be back here next Wednesday for a home playoff game as we make a run at a state championship. Basketball and Cheer have emerged as Coronado’s power couple. It started over the summer with both
Squad’s working out together and grew into a partnership between two teams that sponsored six children for Christmas, raised $4,000 to fight Cancer, held basketball and cheer camps for future athletes and spent time reading and mentoring elementary school children, all while winning basketball games and cheer competitions.
Around Coronado, the eight seniors we recognize tonight have excelled beyond all expectations. In this group we have two 4.0 students, six honors diplomas an academic All-Stater, a homecoming king and two homecoming queen nominees, an honor society member, two student council representatives two football players, a volleyball player, a yearbook editor, a dancing machine and a scoring machine.
Congratulations to all of our seniors and on behalf of the entire Coronado Family, thank you for your service, dedication and spirit.
STARRY
I get the honor of introducing our seniors tonight. It has been my great pleasure to not only work with the Cheerleaders, but starting this past summer the Basketball players invited us to condition with them. I got the chance to know all of these fine student athletes and saw them in action preparing for their senior basketball and cheer seasons. Tonight we recognize, Ashlee Tran, Brian Glenn, Laura Gruninger, R.J. Newton, Kassidy Howard, Gaven Holcomb, Bri Kaszupski and Brandon Glanz.
BERG
I would like to congratulate the four senior basketball players for their amazing accomplishments. I also want to thank the cheerleaders for participating in our program and partnering with us to make this season so memorable.
I have been involved in a lot of Basketball Senior Nights in fact, every single one since Coronado has been open. So when planning this evenings ceremony I decided to leave it up to the non-senior varsity players and cheerleaders. My only request was, “Please make it a celebration.
Ashlee Tran - Presented by Carli Caso
Good Evening. I am junior Carli Caso. I am proud to introduce you to Ashlee Tran and her parents Terrie and Ken.
Ashlee you are an amazing person. You always have a smile on your face and never a cross word for anyone. I respect you and have loved being your teammate. This is Ashlee’s third year cheering for Coronado. Ashlee has been accepted to UNLV Honors college where, get this, she will study to become a doctor… Dr. Tran, I cant wait to call you that.
Ashli was a senior member on yearbook and will earn a High Honors Diploma. Thanks for three great years of Cheer.
Bryan Glenn - Presented by Adam Schmitt
Hello, I’m junior Adam Schmitt. I would like to introduce Brian Glenn and his parents Rick and Kathy Glenn.
Brian, we all look up to you. And I mean that both literally and figuratively. You are a two-sport athlete, a 4.0 student and an all around great guy. Whether we are at practice, a game or around school, you always have a positive attitude and kind things to say. Your spirit and good heart are infectious and I am a proud to be on your team.
After Basketball, Brian will play Volleyball this spring and plans to attend UNLV this fall. John Wooden once said, “Sports do not build character, they reveal it.” Brian’s character is in tact, he is everything you could ever want from a teammate and we will miss him next season.
Laura Gruninger – Presented by Amy Mettke
My name is Amy Mettke, I am a junior. I am so happy to introduce Laura Gruninger and her parents Dawn and Andy Gruninger.
Laura I could say you are so smart, or so fun or so beautiful, but those would be understatements. Your true beauty lies on the inside and I will always remember this year with you. Laura has cheered for Coronado all four years and is a Valedictorian candidate. She has been accepted to the University of San Diego. Laura is an All-State Scholar Athlete, volunteers at an assisted living home, all this while maintaining a job. Laura will go down as one of the most popular Coronado Cheerleaders ever.
R.J. Newton – Presented by Dylan Kaufman
Hi, I am junior Dylan Kaufman. It is my pleasure to introduce R.J. Newton and his parents Todd and Vicki Newton.
R.J. what a senior year! All Conference Quarterback for the football team, Homecoming King and Varsity Basketball player. I have to admit next year I wanna be just like you.
I wanna play like Glanz, but I wanna be like you. Your drive and determination, your fire on the court motivates all of us to work harder everyday. R.J. has played both football and basketball all four years he has attended Coronado. R.J. on behalf of the entire student body, thanks for eight great seasons.
R.J. is planning to attend Biola University this fall. R.J., you are an asset to our team and to our school and we will all be watching what to see what you do next.
Kassidy Howard – Presented by Lexi Goree
Hi, I’m Lexi Goree and I am a junior this year. And it is my honor to introduce Kassidy Howard and her parents John and Kathy.
Kassidy, when cheerleading was created, I think they had you in mind. You are the ultimate Cheerio. You are the perfect storm of strength, agility and spirit. For four years you have really been the face of Coronado Cheer and we will always remember you.
Kassidy is a member of the all girl stunt group that is competing at State this year. Next year, Kassidy will hopefully be on the sidelines as a cheerleader at UNLV. Kassidy is certainly not all back flips and smiles, she is a Scholar Athlete with a 3.75 GPA. Kassidy, you are our co-captain and friend and I will cherish knowing you.
Gaven Holcomb – Presented by Kyle Johnson
My name is Kyle Johnson, I am junior. I am very happy to introduce Gaven Holcomb and his parents Valorie and Richard.
Gaven, if you look up the word determination in the dictionary, it reads, “The quality of to do or achieve something; firmness of purpose.” I think it should just be a picture of you. After suffering a tremendous arm injury and missing last season you worked harder than anyone in the off-season. Your determination not only helped lead this team to a 21-6 record (so far), but made you an easy choice for Co-Captain. Gaven is a two sport letterman and has played basketball all four years at Coronado. Gaven is always there for us, and always willing to lend a hand.
This fall Gaven plans to attend UNLV on an academic scholarship.
Gaven, on behalf of your entire team, thank you for being a leader and thank you for being a friend.
Bri Kaszupski- Presented by Kaitlyn Thompson
Hi, I’m Junior Kaitlyn Thompson and I am honored to introduce Bri Kaszupski and her parents Robin and Joe Kaszupski .
Bri, what haven’t you done in your four years as a cheerleader here at Coronado? From Choreographing routines, to participating on the all-girl stunt team to being selected Co-Captain, I am expecting you to jump on the court and play in the basketball game tonight. You are always there to make this team better. Every event, every fundraiser every minute you put your teammates first and for that we all love you.
Bri would like to attend either Northern Arizona University or University of Nevada Reno. She intends to try out for the cheer squad and continue to cheer through college. Of course, Bri is a Scholars Athlete, High Honors Diploma and a member of National Honor Society. Bri on behalf of your entire team there is only one thing left to say…Thank you.
Brandon Glanz – Presented by Austin Nelson
I’m Austin Nelson a junior and I am here to introduce Brandon Glanz and his parents Denise Shapiro and Vance Glanz.
Brandon, honestly what can I say? You would be nothing without me! I’m kidding. Brandon is the epitome of toughness. Between last season and this season, Brandon was in the gym everyday working on his shot, his strength and his speed. This season he has motivated us both on and off the court to be better players and better people. Brandon is living proof of the that “Hard Work Pays Off.” In game after game this season Brandon has dominated his opponents including scoring a single game record 52 points at Foothill.
Brandon is averaging 26 points and 17 rebounds every game. In the classroom Brandon earned a 4.0 in his core classes last semester proving he is not all just good looks.
Brandon is undecided as to where he will continue his basketball career, but if you have been at our games you have seen several coaches in the stands all licking their chops at a shot to land him at their school. Brandon, it has been an honor to be your teammate over the last two seasons and I look forward to watching your career at the next level.
